Bitwarden Migration Best Practices

BitWarden is one of the most secure open source password management solutions for individuals and businesses. It offers two plans, a free version and a paid version, with the latter only being required for business users who want advanced features. BitWarden uses an encrypted vault to store and secure sensitive information such as website account details, and features handy integrations with your existing web browser to make day-to-day password management easy and secure. It has other features such as password sharing, 2FA authentication, encrypted attachments, reports, and much more.

This guide should break down everything you need to know about migrating your existing saved passwords to Bitwarden.

iCloud Keychain to Bitwarden Migration

Currently, there is no convenient way to export the Apple iCloud passwords to Bitwarden. Looks like the best way is to literally just copy and paste them into Bitwarden.

Manually

You can find your Safari/Keychain passwords in Keychain Access on macOS or in the Passwords & Accounts section of the Settings app on iOS. Then, you can copy-paste them one-by-one into Bitwarden.

For an account currently in Keychain, find and copy your current password.

Mac: Open the Keychain Access app (in the Finder > Applications > Utilities folder), choose the correct keychain in the top-left, and find your saved passwords in the Passwords category. For one of your accounts in the list, remember the username, and right-click on the item and press Copy Password to Clipboard.

iOS: In the Settings app, choose Passwords & Accounts > Website & App Passwords. Authenticate with Touch ID/Face ID if requested. Tap an account in the list, remember its username, and long-press on the password and press Copy to copy the password.
