Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 – MIUI Camera Update
Updating the camera app for Android 8.1 (LineageOS 15.1) is easy and only takes a few moments. It it recommended to write down these instructions if you do not have another device to read them off. To install:
- Uninstall the existing camera app from the home screen by long pressing the icon and tapping on the Ⓘ symbol.
- Go to Settings -> System -> Developer Options. Enable “Advanced Restart”
- Download the MIUI-Cam-v10.zip file on your Redmi Note 5 by clicking here (will open in new tab).
- Hold down the power button and select restart. It will give you a list of restart options – select “recovery”.
- The device will now boot to TWRP recovery.
- Tap on “Install” and then tap on “Select Storage”. Tap on “Internal Storage” and then tap on “OK”.
- Go to “Downloads” and select “MIUI-Cam-v10.zip”. Swipe to install. The device should reboot automatically. If it asks you whether you want to install the TWRP app, just hit “Don’t install”.
- Once Android boots up, go to your app drawer, where you will see the list of all your apps, including a new camera app. Long press on this app to drag and drop it on the home screen. The first time you open the app it will ask for permissions – grant it permissions, and then re-launch the app (it will crash the first time you open it, but after that is stable). You are done!
